89Aveling & Porter 8 ton steaollerOriginally owned by Eddison’s, it was loaned to the Sherwin Knight Infant School, Stroud, Kent at the end of its working life as a climbing frame. The Children lovingly painted it a different colour each year until it was condemned by the Health & Safety Inspector. Purchased by the present owners in 1980, it then underwent an extensive rebuild that included a new fire-box, boiler-barrel, tube-plate and the manufacture of numerous other components. This was completed over a period of 14½ years at Derek Marder’s Yard at Andover. In 2014, apart from the usual winter maintenance a new set of tubes were also fitted.

Shown with the engine is a Living Van, this would have been the living accommodation for the driver and family when the engine was out working; it was purchased from the council yard at Fleet in the 1985 where it was still being used as a tea hut and general store, it took over 5 years to completely rebuild. It is believed to be an Ex Eddison van built in the 1920’s.
This engine travels under its own steam to all of the events it attends with up to 40 miles being covered in a single day.
